Property Damage (PD)

🚗 Auto

The part of auto liability that pays for other people’s stuff you damage — their car, their fence, that unlucky mailbox.

Property damage liability is the part of your auto policy that pays for other people’s property you damage in an at-fault accident — most often their car, but also fences, buildings, and roadside fixtures.

It’s the third number in a split-limit policy (as in 100/300/50, where the 50 is $50,000 of property damage). With the cost of modern vehicles, a low property-damage limit can be exhausted by a single collision with a new truck or luxury car.

Because repairing or replacing today’s cars is expensive, it’s worth carrying more than the state minimum here — the difference in premium is usually small.

This is a friendly general explanation, not legal or policy language. Exact coverage depends on your policy, carrier, and state. 🤝
