Medicare Supplement (Medigap)

🩺 Health

Private coverage that fills the gaps — deductibles and coinsurance — that Original Medicare leaves behind.

A Medicare Supplement — “Medigap” — is private insurance that fills the gaps Original Medicare leaves behind: deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance that can otherwise add up fast.

These policies are standardized into lettered plans (Plan G and Plan N are popular), so a given plan offers the same benefits from every insurer — only the price and service differ. You pay a monthly premium on top of your Part B premium, and in return your out-of-pocket costs become far more predictable, with the freedom to see any provider that accepts Medicare.

The best time to buy is during your Medigap open enrollment when you first get Part B, because that’s when you can’t be turned down or charged more for health reasons.

This is a friendly general explanation, not legal or policy language. Exact coverage depends on your policy, carrier, and state. 🤝
