Network

🩺 Health

The doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies that agreed to discounted rates with your plan. In-network = cheaper; out-of-network = ouch.

A network is the group of doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies that have agreed to discounted rates with your health plan. Staying in-network is what keeps your costs down.

In-network providers cost you far less because the plan has negotiated prices with them; out-of-network care is more expensive and, on some plans (like HMOs and EPOs), not covered at all except in emergencies. Before a procedure or a new provider, it’s worth confirming they’re in your network.

Network design is a big reason plan types differ: HMOs keep you in-network to save money, while PPOs let you roam outside it for a higher share of the cost.

This is a friendly general explanation, not legal or policy language. Exact coverage depends on your policy, carrier, and state. 🤝
