Liquor Liability

💼 Business

Covers alcohol-related claims when you serve or sell booze. If you pour, you probably need it.

Liquor liability covers claims arising from serving or selling alcohol — for instance, if an intoxicated patron later causes harm and the business is held responsible.

General liability typically excludes alcohol-related claims for any business “in the business of” serving it, which is exactly where liquor liability steps in. It’s essential for bars, restaurants, breweries, caterers, and event venues, and it’s often required to get a liquor license or a venue contract.

So-called dram-shop laws in many states make servers legally responsible for what over-served patrons do, which makes this coverage less optional than it might seem.
