Business Interruption (Business Income)

💼 Business

Replaces lost income and covers ongoing bills when a covered loss shuts your business down. Keeps the lights on while you rebuild.

Business interruption — or business income — coverage replaces the profits you lose and the ongoing bills you still owe when a covered event shuts your business down.

If a fire closes your restaurant for three months, your property coverage rebuilds the building, but business income coverage replaces the revenue you would have earned and keeps paying rent, payroll, and loan payments during the “period of restoration.” It’s what keeps a temporary disaster from becoming a permanent closure.

The amount is based on your financials, so under-reporting income to save premium can gut the payout. Pairing it with extra expense coverage — which pays to speed your recovery — makes it stronger.

🎓 Agent note Sold on a coinsurance or agreed-value basis with a period of restoration — under-reporting income here guts the payout. Consider Extra Expense too.

This is a friendly general explanation, not legal or policy language. Exact coverage depends on your policy, carrier, and state. 🤝
