Inland Marine

💼 Business

Despite the name, it covers movable business property on land — tools, equipment, and gear you haul to job sites.

Inland marine is one of insurance’s odd names: despite “marine,” it covers movable business property on land — the tools, equipment, and goods you carry to job sites or ship between locations.

The name is a historical leftover from ocean marine coverage that expanded inland to cover goods in transit. Today it protects things a standard property policy won’t follow off-premises: a contractor’s tools, a photographer’s gear, medical equipment, fine art, or a jeweler’s inventory on the road.

If your valuable business property moves around, inland marine is usually where it belongs — often broader and cheaper than trying to force it under building coverage.

This is a friendly general explanation, not legal or policy language. Exact coverage depends on your policy, carrier, and state. 🤝
