Flood Insurance

👾 Specialty

Separate coverage for flood damage, which standard home and business policies flatly exclude. Available via the NFIP or private carriers.

Flood insurance covers damage from rising water — something standard home and business policies specifically exclude. It’s a separate policy, available through the federal NFIP or a growing private market.

“Flood” has a specific meaning: surface water rising and entering your property, from storms, overflowing rivers, or storm surge. A burst pipe is a home-policy claim; the same water coming in from outside is a flood claim. Just a few inches can cause tens of thousands in damage.

You don’t have to be in a high-risk zone to flood — a large share of claims come from lower-risk areas — and there’s usually a 30-day waiting period, so it’s not something to buy as the storm approaches.
