Named Insured

📚 Basics

The person or business listed by name as the primary insured on the policy.

The named insured is the person or business listed by name on the policy as the primary party being covered. It’s who the policy belongs to and who has the most rights and responsibilities under it.

The named insured pays the premium, receives notices, can make changes, and is first in line for coverage. Others can be covered too — family members, employees, additional insureds — but they generally have narrower rights than the named insured.

On business policies with multiple entities, the “first named insured” has special standing: it gets the bills and notices and can act on behalf of the others, so getting that designation right actually matters.

This is a friendly general explanation, not legal or policy language. Exact coverage depends on your policy, carrier, and state. 🤝
