Endorsement

📚 Basics

A documented change or add-on to your policy. Also called a rider. It edits the contract.

An endorsement (also called a rider) is a documented change to your policy — it adds, removes, or alters coverage. It’s how a standardized policy gets tailored to your specific situation.

Adding a newly purchased engagement ring, scheduling business equipment, naming an additional insured, or excluding a driver are all done by endorsement. Each one becomes part of your contract and can change what’s covered and what you pay.

Because endorsements can broaden or narrow coverage, it’s worth reading them (or having your agent explain them) rather than assuming a change is always in your favor.

This is a friendly general explanation, not legal or policy language. Exact coverage depends on your policy, carrier, and state. 🤝
