Equipment Rental Insurance (No Operators)

Built for businesses that rent equipment without supplying operators. Protect your company with General Liability for rental-to-others exposures and Inland Marine for your owned rental fleet.

Who this is for

Rental businesses that do not provide operators with the equipment and need protection for liability arising from rental agreements and for physical loss to their owned fleet. Examples include light construction tools (mixers, compactors, generators), lifts (where eligible), AV & event gear, party equipment, and recreation items (where eligible). We’ll help you align coverage to your exact inventory.

Key idea

This page addresses rental-to-others exposure without supplying operators. If you provide crews or operate equipment for customers, ask us about an alternate program.

Inland Marine responds to direct physical loss to your scheduled equipment. Theft claims typically require evidence of forcible entry or approved anti‑theft measures.

Contracts, Damage Waivers & Certificates

  • Rental Agreement: Use clear hold harmless, assumption of risk, and responsibility for damage clauses. Capture ID, credit card, and signatures.
  • Damage Waiver: If you sell a waiver to customers, confirm how it interacts with your policy to avoid coverage gaps.
  • Certificates (COIs): We issue COIs with AI/Waiver/PNC wording when required by job sites or venues.
  • Maintenance Logs: Keep inspection records; they’re key in claims and underwriting.

FAQs

Is damage to rented equipment covered by General Liability?

No. GL is third‑party liability. Damage to your equipment is an Inland Marine claim (subject to terms and deductibles).

Can you cover rentals that include our operator?

This page is for no‑operator rentals. If you provide operators or crews, ask about alternate programs and endorsements.

Can you add Additional Insured and Waiver of Subrogation?

Yes—available on GL where required by contract. Primary & Noncontributory wording can be added when eligible.

Do you cover equipment rented from other vendors?

Yes, often via an optional Rented From Others limit on Inland Marine (subject to approval and terms).

What valuation applies—ACV or Replacement Cost?

Depends on the carrier form. Replacement Cost is common for newer items; ACV may apply to older gear. We’ll align the schedule accordingly.
